Simon's journey began at just fifteen, when a Saturday job in a local upholstery workshop sparked a lifelong passion for the craft. Leading to apprenticeships and three years at the prestigious London School of Furniture where he achieved distinctions in Traditional Upholstery and the History of Furniture, he spent a further six years refining his skills before establishing Simon Houlding Upholstery Ltd in Heybridge in 1997.

What began as a one-man workshop has grown into an established and respected brand, built on a reputation for outstanding craftsmanship, attention to detail, and uncompromising quality.

In 2015, Ruth joined the business, bringing with her a successful background in marketing and sustainable furniture design through her ethical furniture company, The Green Suitcase Co. Her passion for interiors and design introduced a new creative dimension, allowing the business to offer clients a truly collaborative experience.

Together, Simon and Ruth guide every client through the design process with warmth, expertise, and a personal approach, ensuring each commission is both effortless and enjoyable.
