The French club chair, built here.
The club chair is a French idea from the 1920s: low in the back, deep in the seat, arms wide enough to rest a whole forearm along. It was made to be sat in for a long evening rather than looked at, and the good ones were sprung and stuffed by hand so they held that shape for decades.
Leather is the traditional cover and still the one most people picture, though we build them in cloth just as often. Either way the work underneath is the same, and the work underneath is what decides whether a chair is still comfortable in twenty years.
Both directions are open. If you already own a club chair it can come back to the workshop and be taken down to the frame. If you do not, one can be built new to your own proportions.
