About Andrew Martin

Andrew Martin was founded in 1978 by Martin Waller, who is still at the heart of the brand. It began in Richmond and moved to Walton Street in South Kensington in 1987, where the showroom still is.

Waller's fabrics and wallpapers are built around global cultures, and became the template for what he called Fusion Interiors, the title of his design book in 2000. He has worked across an unusually wide spread of projects, from films including James Bond, Gladiator and Harry Potter to hotels for Mandarin and Firmdale and the headquarters of Standard Chartered Bank on four continents, and has produced twenty-three books.

In 1996 he started the Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year Award, which the Sunday Times called the Oscars of the design world, and the annual Interior Design Review that goes with it. Past winners include Kelly Hoppen, Nicky Haslam and Martyn Lawrence Bullard.

It is a house for a room that wants some travel in it. Leathers, hides, worn linens and prints that look collected rather than bought, which suits a piece we have rebuilt more than it suits a new one.
