About Dedar
Dedar is a family fabric house founded in 1976 by Nicola and Elda Fabrizio, at Appiano Gentile in the province of Como, in the middle of the Italian textile district. Their children Caterina and Raffaele Fabrizio joined at the end of the 1990s and run it now, and it has grown from twelve people to around two hundred. The London showroom is at the Chelsea Harbour Design Centre.
It does not weave. Dedar's own account of itself is a house that experiments and innovates through a continuing dialogue with the craftsmen and textile specialists who know a given technique best, which is a precise way of saying that it designs and commissions rather than owning looms. On a jacquard or a cut velvet that shows: the cloth is made by whoever does that particular thing well.
The range is organised by what a cloth is for rather than by collection: fabrics, wallcoverings and trimmings, described by use as wall, upholstery, curtain or transparency, and by type as velvet, boucle and texture, jacquard, chenille, canvas, printed or satin. Extra-wide is a Dedar signature and a practical one, because a wide cloth can mean a curtain or a sofa back with no seam in it. Indoor and outdoor and fire-retardant are both stocked properties.
Two facts about the company that get repeated wrongly. Dedar produced and distributed the Hermes furnishing fabric and wallpaper collections from 2011 to 2020, and that partnership has ended. And in 2024 it acquired Filippo Uecher Srl, which is why Mariaflora, the Biella outdoor specialist that is separately on our roster, is now one of Dedar's two brands.
Dedar is priced as a couture house and quoted on application, so it is not the book we open first. It is the one we open when a room has a single piece that has to be exactly right, and when the cloth itself is meant to be the reason somebody looks.

This house does not publish a technical specification with its fabrics online. We take composition, width and rub test off the pattern book for you before anything is ordered.
