About John Derian
John Derian is an American artist and antiques dealer, born in 1962, who opened his first shop in New York's East Village in 1995. His work is decoupage, built from botanical and natural-history engravings, and the fabrics and papers carry the same images onto cloth. They are produced by Designers Guild, which is how we get them.
The prints are drawn rather than designed: butterflies, shells, ferns and plates from old books, on grounds that look aged on purpose. They read as something collected, which suits a room with older furniture in it.
