About Designers Guild
Designers Guild was established in 1970 by Tricia Guild, and the shop at 277 King's Road opened in November the following year. It is still owned and run by Tricia Guild, as founder and creative director, with her brother Simon Jeffreys as group chief executive; he joined in 1986.
The company was given the Queen's Award for Export Achievement in 1991 and again in 1996, and Tricia Guild received an OBE for services to interior design in 2008. It has worked with artists throughout, from Kaffe Fassett, whose first collection came in 1976, to Howard Hodgkin, with whom Tricia Guild made the enormous tulip fabrics of Large Flowers. It also holds licences for other names, becoming exclusive licensee for Ralph Lauren fabric and wallpaper in 1999 and gaining a Royal Collection licence in 2007.
By its fiftieth anniversary the ranges ran to nearly nine thousand fabrics and turnover was over fifty million pounds, marked with an exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London. The group employs more than 280 people in the United Kingdom, with showrooms in New York, Paris, Stockholm and Munich.
When someone comes in and says they want colour, this is the first book we pull. It is the house that will still have a shade nobody else weaves.
