About Christian Lacroix
Christian Lacroix was born in Arles in 1951 and opened his couture house in Paris in 1987. The clothes were known for opulence at a moment when fashion had gone minimal: Mediterranean colour, embroidery, and several patterns at once where other houses were using none.
The couture and ready-to-wear ended in 2009 and the name has continued through licences since. Designers Guild took the interiors licence in 2011, and the fabrics and wallpapers are designed and made in London under it, which is how they reach us.
It is the house to reach for when somebody wants a room to be a bit brave. The prints are large and unapologetic, so they want a piece with the scale to carry them: a long curtain drop, a headboard, a wide sofa back rather than a small chair.
