About Laura Ashley

Laura Ashley was founded in 1953 by Laura and Bernard Ashley, at a kitchen table in Pimlico, printing headscarves and tea towels. It moved to Wales in 1961 and grew to more than five hundred shops.

The look barely needs describing to anybody who grew up in Britain: small repeating sprigs, ticking stripes, chintz florals and a soft, faded palette. It is the reference point most customers mean when they say they want something English and unfussy.

The company went into administration in 2020 and the brand has been licensed since, acquired by Marquee Brands in January 2025. Its furnishing fabrics reach us through Ashley Wilde, which holds the licence, so they are ordered and delivered exactly as the rest of that range is.

This house does not publish a technical specification with its fabrics online. We take composition, width and rub test off the pattern book for you before anything is ordered.
