About Wemyss
Wemyss traces its roots to the weaving mill established by the brothers George and James Johnston at East Wemyss in Fife in the 1860s, and says the present business has been established for over seventy years. It relocated to Dundee in 2006.
The company designs in house but does not weave or print itself: its designers work with a carefully selected group of weavers and printers around the world, drawing on archive documents, the natural world and topical themes. The range covers plain and semi-plain cloths, original printed designs, lustrous sheers, decorative weaves and textured wallcoverings. Wemyss Weavecraft is a trading name of Sekers Fabrics Limited, registered in Scotland since January 1998 at the same Dundee industrial estate the brand gives as its address. There is also a London showroom on Lots Road, a few minutes from the Chelsea Harbour Design Centre.
The plains and semi-plains are what we use most. A good semi-plain is the hardest thing to buy well and the most useful thing to have: it is what goes on the sofa when the curtains are doing the talking.
