About this fabric

The fabric is visibly dense and softly textured, with a charcoal surface that shifts subtly between blackened grey and softer graphite tones. Broad squares are formed by narrow pale-grey lines, creating a clear windowpane check without overwhelming the dark ground. The contrast is muted rather than stark, so the pattern reads as architectural and quietly structured. Its substantial-looking woven appearance makes it especially suited to upholstery where a smart, graphic finish is wanted.

How to use it

Use Wales Charcoal on an armchair, headboard or sofa to anchor a room in a cool, deep grey. Pair the pale check lines with softer greys, chalky whites and dark wood for a composed, tailored scheme.

Use the deep charcoal ground and pale windowpane check to give upholstered seating a tailored, architectural finish.

Pairs well with

A pattern needs somewhere for the eye to rest, so these are the plains and textures that sit beside Wales Charcoal Fabric without fighting it. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
