About this colour

At #4E433A, Hardback is a warm dark brown with a muted, earthy character and enough grey in it to keep it calm rather than sweet. It absorbs a good amount of light, so it can feel cocooning in a north-facing room, where the cooler light may pull out its shadowy side. In south-facing light it warms up, showing more of its cocoa and timber notes and feeling less heavy. It sits well beside natural oak, walnut, aged brass and deep greens, and it gives pale linens, stone tones and cream upholstery a clear, settled backdrop.

How to use it

Use Hardback on library walls, joinery or a dresser to anchor a room with dark timber and tailored upholstery. It works particularly well beside tan leather, mossy greens, oatmeal weaves and warm white curtains.

Order it with the cloth

A pot comes off the same order as the fabric, so the wall and the chair in front of it are chosen together. The making is ours: cut, sewn and fitted in our own Heybridge workshop, with Simon over every stage.
