The Record Store

#404140 reads as a cool-leaning dark grey with a subtle olive undertone, so it never looks flat black. It absorbs a good deal of light, which gives it depth in Flat Matt, while Eggshell and Soft Sheen will lift it just enough for joinery, cupboards and trim. In a north-facing room it can feel more shadowy and the green note becomes a touch clearer; in south light the grey looks fuller and warmer, with the green softened back. It pairs well beside natural timber, pale stone, chalky off-whites and upholstery in warm neutrals, deep indigo or muted bottle green. The same colour also works neatly in Exterior finishes where a calm, architectural dark is needed.

Use it in a study, hallway or on fitted joinery where you want a dark but restrained finish. It sits well beside oak, walnut, linen-toned curtains and upholstery in oatmeal, peat, rust or moss.
