About this fabric

This Mark Alexander Timeless Velvets colourway is a dense-looking, plain velvet with a near-black charcoal base. Close inspection reveals a muted otter-brown undertone, keeping the shade softer and warmer than a straightforward black or blue-grey. The short pile produces a restrained directional sheen, with lighter and darker bands visible as the surface changes direction. With no pattern competing for attention, the depth comes entirely from the velvet texture and its low-key variation in tone.

How to use it

Use Urbane Otter on a sofa, headboard or occasional chair where its warm charcoal depth can ground pale stone, tobacco leather, aged timber and brushed metal. Its subdued sheen also suits a darker, cocooning room without introducing a strong colour statement.

Use this deep charcoal-taupe velvet to bring quiet depth and a softly polished finish to upholstered seating.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
