About this fabric

The cloth is visibly built with a diagonal twill weave, giving the check pattern a gently ridged surface and clear tonal depth. Forest green and blue-green blocks dominate the ground, while navy squares add shadow and the red lines bring a restrained, muted contrast. The balanced medium-scale checks read as structured rather than busy, making this colourway particularly suited to upholstered furniture with a traditional or tailored silhouette.

How to use it

Use Macdonald, Muted on a reading chair, ottoman or compact sofa, then draw out its forest-green and teal tones with plain cushions, dark wood and warm stone or oatmeal upholstery elsewhere in the room.

Use this deep, muted tartan on an armchair, footstool or traditional sofa, balancing its red accents with dark timber and warm neutrals.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
