Alexander Notte is a deeply saturated navy velvet with an almost-black appearance in the shadowed areas of the swatch. Its plain face lets the subtle movement of the pile provide the visual depth.

About this fabric

The colour reads as ink navy rather than bright blue, with cool midnight tones that deepen towards the edges and in the nap. A faint change in direction across the velvet catches the light softly, revealing just enough blue to keep the surface from looking flat. There is no visible pattern or contrasting motif; the character comes from the dense, even velvet texture and its restrained sheen. As a catalogued velvet, it is particularly suited to upholstery where this dark, enveloping colour can give seating a substantial, tailored presence.

How to use it

Use this deep ink navy on a sofa, headboard or occasional chair against warm timber, aged brass or pale stone to draw out its cool depth. Keep surrounding patterns quiet so the velvet’s subtle shift between blue and near-black remains visible.

A near-black navy velvet for enveloping upholstery, statement seating and richly layered interiors.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
