CASPIAN Velvet - Umber

fabric Velvet1-FA-CPN-VE-UMB-XXX-XXX

CASPIAN Velvet in Umber combines a deep olive-brown ground with sweeping black, tiger-like stripes. Its plush-looking surface gives the pattern a soft, shadowed depth rather than a flat graphic finish.

About this fabric

This House of Hackney velvet is coloured in a warm umber shade that shifts between olive, moss and brown across the pile. Irregular black bands flow across the face in layered, organic formations, creating a bold animal-inspired pattern with visible movement. The velvet texture softens the contrast, allowing the darker markings to recede and catch the light unevenly. As a catalogued Velvet fabric with no performance features noted, it is best considered for upholstery where its dramatic large-scale pattern can be seen clearly.

How to use it

Use the olive-umber ground to anchor a reading chair, sofa or headboard, pairing it with dark wood, aged brass and warm neutrals. Keep surrounding textiles quieter so the black striped movement remains the room’s defining detail.

Use this richly shaded velvet on statement seating where its black organic striping can become the focal point.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
