Little Greene

Marine Blue

Blues Paint

Marine Blue is a dark, composed blue with a clear green-blue cast, giving it a marine depth rather than a pure navy feel. It sits firmly in Little Greene’s Blues range and reads as a grounded, architectural colour.

About this colour

This shade is cool and fairly absorbent, so it will make a wall feel more intimate and can pull a room in, especially in a large space. In north-facing light it can look deeper and slightly greener, with the coolness becoming more noticeable; in south-facing light the blue opens out and the teal edge becomes clearer. It holds its colour well beside pale linen, stone tones and warm timber, and it gives painted woodwork a crisp, defined edge. Against patterned curtains or upholstered seating, it works best with fabrics that have natural depth rather than anything too bright or busy.

How to use it

Marine Blue suits a library, study or dining room, especially on walls with painted joinery in the same colour or a lighter off-white. It pairs well with walnut, oak and upholstery in oatmeal, charcoal or muted green tones.

A deep blue-green that gives walls a calm, enclosed feel.
