Cartagena Java is a rich Java-brown textile with a pronounced ribbed surface. Its close-set vertical channels are interrupted by small stepped blocks, creating strong tactile movement across the cloth.

About this fabric

The colour reads as a deep, warm chocolate brown, with subtle tonal shifts where the raised ribs catch the light and the recessed channels fall into shadow. Closely spaced vertical ridges give the surface a substantial, corded appearance, while the small rectangular woven sections add a softly geometric rhythm. The dark brown ground makes the texture feel intimate and grounding rather than bright or decorative. No performance features are noted in the supplied specification.

How to use it

Use Cartagena Java on a generously shaped armchair, sofa or ottoman where its warm chocolate tone can anchor lighter woods, tobacco leather and softly contrasting neutrals. The ribbed texture also suits a room that needs depth without introducing a separate printed motif.

A deeply coloured, heavily textured weave for grounding upholstered seating and adding tactile depth.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
