About Cristina Marrone

This is one company under two names, which is why it appears twice on our roster and only once here. The Brown family started the business in 1977, trading as Covertex, on the strength of their own experience in upholstery. Companies House records the company as incorporated on 16 August 1977 as Covertex Limited and renamed Cristina Marrone Limited on 3 March 2025.

Covertex became one of the leading wholesalers to the trade, supplying more than two thousand upholstery fabrics in the United Kingdom and across Europe. Cristina Marrone, the founders' daughter, joined in 1999. She studied at the London College of Printing and Distributive Trades and took her textile design degree at Central Saint Martins, and every fabric in the range is now either designed by her or handpicked by her from mills around the world.

It is also the closest fabric house to this workshop. Cristina Marrone works from Hainault Business Park, half an hour down the A12 from Heybridge, which is a practical advantage as well as a nice fact: a cutting can be in our hands the following morning.
