About this fabric

This 218 gsm textile has a 137 cm usable width, with a 89 cm vertical repeat and 69 cm horizontal repeat that structure the expressive vertical design. Steel grey and soft chalk create the light, cool base, while charcoal and taupe-grey accents add depth without making the colourway feel heavy. The 395 threads per cm give the surface a closely detailed appearance, allowing the irregular brushwork to remain crisp at close range. Supplied in a standard 30 m length, it is a versatile mid-weight option for upholstery and drapery applications.

How to use it

Use Takara Steel/Chalk to cool a room with its steel-grey and chalk palette, pairing it with pale woods, brushed metal or deeper charcoal accents. On upholstery, the vertical marks can add directional movement; at a window, the light ground keeps the pattern airy.

Use the cool steel-grey ground with chalk and charcoal accents to bring painterly contrast to upholstery, curtains or cushions.

Pairs well with

A pattern needs somewhere for the eye to rest, so these are the plains and textures that sit beside Takara Steel/Chalk without fighting it. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
