Donovan Plaid Slate/Umber

Donovan Plaid Slate/Umber is a softly muted check with slate-grey ground tones crossed by umber, taupe and pale chalk lines. The result is a tailored, weathered look that feels calm rather than contrasty.

About this fabric

This colourway of Donovan Plaid brings together cool slate greys and warm umber-brown blocks, softened by fine cream and beige pinstripes. The weave reads as a linen-led fabric with a gentle, tactile surface rather than a glossy finish, which keeps the plaid looking relaxed and grounded. It is composed of 40% viscose, 39% linen and 21% polyester, giving the cloth a balanced, practical handle while preserving the natural look of the linen. With an approximate width of 141cm and a repeat of V 36cm / H 35cm, it is well suited to patterned furnishings that need a measured, classic scale. The fire code is √BM and the care code is Q 8 + T 3.

How to use it

Use this slate-and-umber plaid on a wing chair, bench cushion or roman blind where its muted colour mix can sit comfortably with oak, walnut and painted joinery. It also works neatly in rooms that need pattern without brightness, especially alongside stone, parchment and aged brass.

A restrained slate-and-umber check that suits classic upholstery or tailored curtains.

Pairs well with

Donovan Plaid Slate/Umber is a quiet cloth, so it carries a pattern beside it: one of these on the curtains and this on the chair. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
