Blues Paint

2AM is Coat Paints’ dark blue-grey from the Blues range. It is a restrained, evening-toned colour that sits between navy and charcoal, with enough blue in it to stay readable rather than simply blackened.

About this colour

This shade reads cool overall, with a softened blue base and a grey depth that absorbs a good deal of light. On a wall it can feel close and grounded, but not heavy in the way a true black would, because the blue keeps the colour open. In a north-facing room it will look moodier and lean more slate-grey, while in south-facing light the blue comes forward and the colour feels a little clearer and more alive. It sits well beside pale oak, dark stained timber, chalky whites and muted upholstery tones such as stone, ink, and faded denim.

How to use it

2AM suits a sitting room, study or hallway where you want the walls to hold the furniture rather than compete with it. It works neatly with painted woodwork in the same family, or beside deep-toned upholstery and natural curtains in linen, wool or cotton.

A deep blue-grey like this will make a wall feel calmer and more enclosed.
