Below Deck

Blues Paint

Below Deck is a cool blue-grey from Coat Paints that sits between slate and sea mist. It has enough colour to hold a room, but it stays quiet and measured.

About this colour

This shade reads as a softened blue with a grey base, so it feels steady rather than bright. In north-facing light it can lean more slate and slightly cooler, while in south-facing rooms the blue comes forward and the grey keeps it calm. It reflects some light without looking pale, which makes it useful when you want colour on the wall without too much contrast. Against pale oak, walnut, linen, and navy upholstery it feels composed; beside crisp white woodwork it looks cleaner and more architectural. In Eggshell or Soft Sheen it will feel a little firmer on joinery, while Flat Matt keeps it quieter on walls.

How to use it

Use Below Deck in a sitting room, study, or hallway where you want a settled backdrop for patterned curtains and upholstered chairs. It works well with natural woodwork, off-white trim, and deep navy, taupe, or stone-coloured upholstery.

A calm blue-grey that can feel cooler in shade and softer in warmer light.
