About this fabric

The plain velvet has a close, even appearance rather than a woven motif, giving the colour a particularly clean and enveloping presence. Safran reads as a warm orange between burnt terracotta and golden ochre, with a muted depth that prevents it from appearing bright or brash. Fine tonal variation across the surface reveals the direction of the pile and creates a restrained, velvety sheen. As a velvet fabric, it is especially well suited to upholstery where this saturated colour can become the focal point.

How to use it

Use this warm saffron-orange on a lounge chair, curved sofa or headboard, pairing it with chalky neutrals, dark timber and aged brass. Its terracotta depth also works well as a warming accent in rooms led by olive, brown or soft blue.

Use this warm saffron velvet to bring glowing depth to an upholstered chair, sofa or headboard.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
