About this fabric

The velvet pile gives this colourway a soft, dense-looking surface, while the directional nap creates restrained shifts between blue-black shadow and slightly lighter blue highlights. Across the swatch, irregular botanical shapes overlap in a low-contrast pattern that reveals itself gradually rather than reading as a bold print. The Encre tone feels cool, nocturnal and richly concentrated, with enough tonal variation to prevent the dark ground from looking flat. As a velvet, it is naturally well suited to upholstery, particularly where its depth and subtle light response can be seen across cushions, arms or curved furniture.

How to use it

Use Bacarà Encre on a sculptural armchair, headboard or sofa when a room needs a cool, enveloping anchor. Pair its ink-blue depth with smoked timber, charcoal, pewter and restrained blue-grey accents to draw out the pattern’s shadowed tonal movement.

A near-black ink-blue velvet with a quietly shifting, leafy surface that suits tailored upholstery and dramatic interiors.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
