Merlin is a deep charcoal-grey textile with a closely ribbed surface and subtle pale flecking. The tonal variation keeps the dark colour dimensional rather than flat.

About this fabric

The charcoal ground is crossed by fine, irregular horizontal striations, creating a low-key linear texture across the surface. Small lighter threads break through the dark grey, giving the fabric a softly mottled appearance that shifts gently with the light. Its dense, substantial-looking weave is consistent with its supplied classification as a carpet textile and makes it best suited to upholstery within this classification. The restrained colour and narrow horizontal rhythm give the design a smart, architectural character.

How to use it

Pair this cool charcoal grey with blackened timber, pale stone and brushed metal for a crisp contemporary scheme. It can also anchor a layered grey interior where the fine ribbing introduces texture without a strong decorative motif.

Use this deep charcoal-grey texture to add quiet depth to contemporary upholstery and layered monochrome schemes.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
