Little Greene

Basalt

Blues Paint

Basalt is a very deep blue from Little Greene, with the weight of ink and the restraint of a softened black. It gives a room a composed, enclosed feel without reading as a true black.

About this colour

This shade sits in the darker end of the blues, with a cool cast and very little lightness to it, so it absorbs rather than reflects most of what falls on it. In north-facing light it can feel even deeper and more slate-like, with its blue note receding into shadow. In south-facing light the colour opens a little, and the blue becomes clearer while still staying firmly dark. On walls it makes pale timber, stone, linen and warm oak stand out sharply, and it also works well beside charcoal, navy and soft grey upholstery tones.

How to use it

Basalt suits a library, snug or hallway where you want the walls to feel calm and grounded. It pairs well with painted joinery in off-white or with dark woodwork, and it gives warm leather, tweed and muted patterned upholstery strong support.

On a wall, Basalt reads as a very dark blue with a quiet, elegant depth.
