About this colour

At #717171, Bastille reads as a true mid-grey with a slight warmth that stops it feeling hard. It holds light evenly, so it softens bright spaces without going flat, and it keeps enough depth to give walls or woodwork definition. In north-facing rooms it can edge cooler and a touch more sombre, bringing out its concrete-like side. In south-facing light it appears warmer and more approachable, with the grey staying clear rather than drifting beige. It sits well beside chalky off-whites, smoked oak, blackened timber and deep muted colours such as bottle green or inky blue.

How to use it

Use Bastille on walls in a sitting room, hallway or study where you want a calm backdrop for upholstered pieces. It also suits joinery, especially alongside natural wood, linen shades and plain or patterned curtains in muted greens, blues or terracotta tones.

Bastille gives a room a settled grey base with enough warmth to stay usable.
