About Baker Lifestyle

Baker Lifestyle is the diffusion range of GP and J Baker, and the house describes it as young, fresh and pretty: designs meant to be adaptable and accessible rather than grand. Where the parent house works from its historic archive, this is where the witty and whimsical prints, the relaxed informal weaves and the botanical embroideries sit, mostly on soft linens and crisp cottons.

The collections are made to be used together. The house says every Baker Lifestyle fabric and wallpaper is coloured to harmonise with the rest, and its Notebooks books are the workhorses of the range: multi-purpose, washable and durable cloths with long colour lines and, in its own words, accessible pricing.

Recent ranges show the spread. Bridport pairs illustrative prints with checks and stripes; Block Party is five hand block prints; Carnival mixes botanical and ethnic prints with bright embroidery; and Echo Indienne draws on India's block prints and woven ikats, in cloth and in paper.

It reaches us through the same UK office and the same books as GP and J Baker, so a scheme can move between the two without changing supplier. For us it is the practical half of that pairing: a washable, well-priced cloth for a sofa that is sat on every day, which still looks as though somebody chose it.
