Nouveau Velvet Teal

What's New Velvet

Nouveau Velvet Teal has a lively striated look, with slim vertical streaks of teal, turquoise, cream and soft tan running through the pile. The effect is bright and painterly, yet grounded by the plush velvet texture.

About this fabric

This velvet from Fryett's Fabrics' What's New collection is woven in 71% polyester, 23% cotton and 6% viscose, with a 140cm width and a 37cm vertical repeat. The surface reads as a dense, tactile velvet rather than a flat print, with the pile catching the light to reveal cooler blue-teal lines against softer cream and beige ground notes. Its colourway feels fresh and aquatic, but the touches of tan and taupe stop it from looking overly icy. The vertically streaked design gives it a strong sense of movement, making it especially suited to statement upholstery.

How to use it

Use it on an accent chair, ottoman or headboard where the teal and cream streaks can be seen from a little distance. It works well with pale oak, chalky neutrals and brushed brass for a crisp, contemporary scheme.

Pair with warm neutrals to let the cool teal striations stand out.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
