Isle Mill

Orkney Navy

Orkney Boucle Fabric

Orkney Navy is a deeply shaded navy textile with a softly mottled, nubby boucle surface. The dark blue reads almost charcoal in the heaviest areas, while raised fibres catch the light subtly across the swatch.

About this fabric

Catalogued as a fabric, Orkney Navy has a dense, irregular boucle texture rather than a printed motif. Its cool navy tone is heavily saturated but subdued by the shadowed pile, giving the surface a near-black depth without losing its blue character. Fine shifts between blue-black and softer navy appear across the uneven weave as the light moves over it. No performance features are noted for this fabric, so its visible texture and colour are the defining qualities of this colourway.

How to use it

Use Orkney Navy on a statement armchair, sofa or headboard where its almost-black blue depth can anchor lighter walls and natural timber. Pair it with chalky neutrals, smoked wood and brushed metal to draw out the cool, tactile character of the boucle.

Its near-black navy depth and softly nubby surface bring quiet weight to upholstered seating.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
