Antiquary is a quietly complex violet-grey from Zoffany’s 2026 Paint range. It sits between dusky plum and slate, giving walls a restrained, antique note without reading overtly purple.

About this colour

This shade has a cool core softened by a little warmth, so it reads as a balanced grey with a violet cast rather than a pure mauve. On a wall it absorbs a fair amount of light, which gives it a calm, enclosed feel in the finish you choose, especially in True Matt. In a north-facing room it will lean cooler and more slate-like, with the violet side becoming more reserved. In south-facing light it opens up a little and the warmer undertone comes forward, making it feel fuller and more layered beside dark oak, walnut, linen neutrals, or deep berry upholstery.

How to use it

Antiquary suits sitting rooms, studies, and bedrooms where you want a composed backdrop for upholstered chairs or curtains in oatmeal, damson, charcoal, or worn leather tones. It also works well on woodwork with aged brass, smoked timber, or painted joinery in adjacent greys and off-whites.

On a wall, Antiquary reads as a muted violet-grey with a calm, refined depth.
