About this colour

At #424244, Bone Black sits in the deep grey range with only a slight blue-black cast, so it feels cooler than a brown black and gentler than a stark jet black. It absorbs a good deal of light, giving walls a contained, grounded look, while the Zoffany finishes let it sit neatly across walls and woodwork. In a north-facing room it can read even cooler and more graphite-like, with the blue note showing more clearly. In south light it warms just enough to look richer and more balanced, without losing its dark, even character. It works well beside pale linen tones, chalk whites, deep forest greens, saddle leather and walnut or ebonised wood.

How to use it

Use Bone Black in a study, hallway or dining room where you want a close, tailored backdrop for artwork and seating. It suits pale or patterned upholstery, dark timber furniture and crisp painted joinery in white or a softer stone shade.

Bone Black gives a wall a deep, steady dark tone without the harshness of a pure black.
