Coat Paints

COAT makes paint to order. Nothing waits in a warehouse: every tin is mixed when it is ordered, which the company says avoids the waste and overproduction of mass-made paint, and it sells direct rather than through stores. It was started by two founders, both called Rob, who left jobs in big companies to make paint for people who want a stylish home without the hassle or the environmental cost.

The company describes itself as the world's first Climate Positive and B Corp certified paint company, and says its paint is made with ingredients sourced in the UK, including fresh water, clay and limestone. The colour card is deliberately short and curated, with names that carry a story: Shell Grotto is a stony off-white inspired by the shell-lined grotto in Margate.

Most colours come in several finishes, and each colour's own page here lists which: Flat Matt for walls, Flat Matt Claypaint, Eggshell for woodwork, Soft Sheen, Floor Paint and Exterior. The same colour can therefore run from a wall onto the skirting, the floor or the front door.

Simon added COAT to the paints we supply in September 2026, so a colour chosen here can be ordered through the workshop. The colours sit in the fabric finder beside the cloth, so a wall and the sofa in front of it can be decided together.
