Larsen

Jack Lenor Larsen founded his textile studio in New York during the 1950s, and the business dates itself to 1952. Colefax and Fowler acquired it in 1997, and it is now one of the five fabric brands sold by Colefax Group plc.

The original archive of designs still sets the direction of the collections, and the studio is overseen today by a design team in Paris. Larsen's own account of its method is that it puts historic hand-weaving together with contemporary weaving to get texture with real character. The collections run to geometric patterns, embroideries, weaves and sheers in fine linen and silk, and the Anju wallcovering collection is drawn from ikats, Tuareg rugs and traditional weaving.

Everything the Colefax group sells is woven and printed by third-party mills rather than in works of its own.

This is the Colefax brand we go to when a scheme wants texture rather than pattern: the swatches read as one colour from across a room and only give up their weave close to. Cotton leads the compositions in our library and the cloth is usually 140cm wide, with composition, repeat, fire code and care code published on every piece.
