About this fabric

At 358 gsm, this substantial fabric is well suited to upholstery, where its layered brushstroke design can provide a strong focal surface. The usable width is 137 cm, while the 69 cm vertical repeat and 34.5 cm horizontal repeat give the pattern a clear rhythm when cutting and matching. Kingfisher’s dominant turquoise and blue-green tones read crisp and aquatic, while icy blue passages lift the ground and the occasional ochre accent adds warmth. The softly irregular marks and visible tonal variation give the colourway depth rather than a flat block of colour.

How to use it

Use Umbra Kingfisher on a statement chair, headboard or occasional sofa in a light room where its icy blue areas can catch the daylight. Balance the vivid teal with chalky neutrals, pale timber and small touches of amber or aged brass.

Use the cool Kingfisher ground to energise upholstery, with warm amber flashes echoed in timber or leather accents.

Pairs well with

A pattern needs somewhere for the eye to rest, so these are the plains and textures that sit beside Umbra Kingfisher without fighting it. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
