Reds and Yellows Paint

Always Guilded is a grounded ochre from Coat Paints, leaning into gold, brown and a trace of red. It feels old-world rather than bright, with enough depth to sit comfortably across a room.

About this colour

#8E763C reads as a warm, earthy yellow-brown with a muted golden cast, so it takes the shine off strong light rather than bouncing it back. In north-facing rooms it can feel more restrained and brown, with the yellow warmed down into a mellow, shaded tone. In south-facing light the gold in it comes forward and the colour looks richer and more open, without turning sharp. It sits well beside aged oak, walnut, tobacco leathers, linen whites and deeper reds, and it can also anchor painted joinery without feeling heavy. In Flat Matt it will look especially soft and absorbed; in Eggshell or Soft Sheen it gains a little more depth on woodwork and cupboards.

How to use it

Use it in a study, snug or dining room where you want warmth without brightness. It works well with dark timber, camel or rust upholstery, and with cream or stone-coloured curtains.

On a wall, Always Guilded gives a room a warm, settled tone with an earthy finish.
