About this colour

At #77524B, Petticoat Lane reads as a muted red-brown with enough pigment to settle a room and enough warmth to keep it from feeling heavy. Flat Matt will make it feel deeper and calmer on walls, while Eggshell and Soft Sheen give a little more light return on woodwork and trim. In a north-facing room it can look more restrained and shadowed, with the brown notes coming forward; in south light the red in it opens up and feels warmer and more welcoming. It sits well beside cream, tan, biscuit and aged wood, and it also has enough depth to hold its own with rust, olive and darker upholstered pieces.

How to use it

Use it in a sitting room, study or hall where you want warmth and a settled backdrop for natural timber, leather and woven upholstery tones. It also works well with painted joinery, especially off-white or deep green woodwork, and with curtains in flax, stone or muted floral shades.

On a wall, Petticoat Lane gives a room a warm, rooted red-brown backdrop that feels best with good natural light.
