Sense Marine

Sense Marine is a deep, near-charcoal blue fabric with a quiet, directional texture across its surface. The shade reads cool and composed, while fine tonal variation keeps the plain ground from appearing flat.

About this fabric

The colour sits between marine navy and softened charcoal, giving this upholstery fabric a subdued depth rather than a bright or saturated blue appearance. A fine horizontal weave is visible across the swatch, with tiny shifts in tone that create a gently brushed, tactile surface. There is no printed motif; the interest comes from the close, understated construction and the way the dark blue catches the light. As part of Kirkby Design’s 4d Upholstery collection, Sense Marine is catalogued as a fabric for upholstery applications.

How to use it

Use Sense Marine for a clean-lined sofa, dining chair or headboard where its cool dark tone can anchor a room. Balance the near-charcoal blue with pale stone walls, natural oak or brushed metal for contrast.

Use this deep marine blue on a tailored sofa or armchair, pairing it with charcoal, warm timber and muted metal accents.

Pairs well with

Sense Marine is a quiet cloth, so it carries a pattern beside it: one of these on the curtains and this on the chair. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
