Vandal Gris

Utility Fabric

Vandal Gris layers a cool dove-grey ground with overlapping charcoal-grey brush marks, loops and elongated painterly shapes. The softly grainy surface gives the abstract design a muted, tactile depth.

About this fabric

The visible pattern is broad and expressive, with sweeping oval forms, broken strokes and scattered flecks moving across the grey ground. Its restrained dove- and charcoal-grey palette keeps the large-scale motif calm rather than high-contrast, while the fine surface grain subtly softens the printed-looking marks. No performance features are noted for this fabric, so suitability should be assessed against the intended upholstery application.

How to use it

Pair Vandal Gris with chalky whites, pale timber and brushed metal for a cool, contemporary room, or use deep charcoal accents to draw out the darker marks. Its subdued grey tone works particularly well on a statement chair or compact sofa where the sweeping pattern can remain visible.

Use this cool, layered grey as a contemporary upholstery neutral, balancing its expressive painterly pattern with quiet plain-textured furnishings.

Pairs well with

A pattern needs somewhere for the eye to rest, so these are the plains and textures that sit beside Vandal Gris without fighting it. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
