About this colour

This shade reads as a cool, balanced mid tone with enough grey in it to keep the blue quiet and usable on larger wall areas. In north-facing light it will feel more slate-like and slightly deeper, with the blue softened by shadow. In south-facing rooms it lifts a little and the blue becomes clearer, while the grey keeps it from feeling bright. It sits well beside pale oak, painted white woodwork, and upholstery in stone, linen, navy, or faded teal. In Active Emulsion or Waterbased Eggshell, it suits both walls and joinery where you want a steady, grown-up colour.

How to use it

Use Oakeley Slate in a sitting room, study, or hallway with painted skirting and doors in a clean white or a softer putty tone. It works especially well with natural timber, deep buttoned upholstery, and fabrics in oatmeal, indigo, or muted green.

On a wall, Oakeley Slate gives a room a calm grey-blue presence without feeling stark.
