Portland Charcoal

Other Fabrics & Weaves Fabric

Portland Charcoal shows a repeating trailing leaf motif in dark charcoal on a warm pale ground. The pattern feels airy and orderly, with the sketch-like outline giving it a refined, tailored look.

About this fabric

This textile is composed of 82% poly, 11% cotton and 7% linen, and it comes in a 140cm width with a 15.8cm pattern repeat. In this colourway, the ground reads as a soft oat-meal taupe, which lets the charcoal stem lines stand out without feeling stark. The leaf forms are drawn in a lighter taupe-grey, so the overall effect is layered and slightly softened rather than high contrast. Its woven surface looks matte and subtly textural, which suits the restrained, architectural rhythm of the design. Care instructions are NQT1<.

How to use it

Use Portland Charcoal where you want pattern without bold colour: it will sit well on an upholstered armchair, bench or tailored blind. The muted taupe ground also works beautifully with timber, stone and deep bronze accents.

Pair with oak, putty linen and dark metal for a quietly tailored look.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
