Defined Momentum Fabrics FabricHAF0643-03

Oceanic Chalk/Clay combines an ivory-chalk ground with broken clay-brown and muted ochre marks arranged in irregular horizontal bands. The abstract striations create a softly weathered surface with clear visual movement.

About this fabric

This substantial 515 gsm fabric has a dense specification of 172 threads per centimetre, giving the design a considered, weighty presence for upholstery. Its 105 cm vertical repeat and 66.5 cm horizontal repeat organise the fragmented lines into a broad, rhythmic composition rather than a small-scale texture. The warm chalk base keeps the colourway light, while the rusted clay and ochre accents add depth without becoming bright or saturated. At 132.5 cm usable width, the pattern has room to read clearly across a generous upholstered surface.

How to use it

Use Oceanic Chalk/Clay on a statement chair, sofa or headboard where its warm ivory ground can brighten the room while the clay-brown markings connect with timber, terracotta and aged brass. Keep surrounding textiles quiet so the irregular horizontal movement remains visible.

Pair the warm chalk ground and clay-brown striations with natural timber, aged leather or soft neutral upholstery.

Pairs well with

A pattern needs somewhere for the eye to rest, so these are the plains and textures that sit beside Oceanic Chalk/Clay without fighting it. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
