About this colour

This shade reads as a warm, muted brown with a quiet olive-brown undertone, so it feels substantial rather than harsh. On walls it absorbs a fair amount of light, giving a room a settled, enveloping look, while still leaving the colour legible in daylight. In a north-facing room it can feel deeper and slightly cooler, with the brown taking on a more shadowed note. In south-facing light it warms up and shows its earthy side, sitting well beside oak, walnut, aged brass, cream upholstery and darker patterned drapery.

How to use it

Blackthorn suits libraries, studies and dining rooms where you want woodwork to read as part of the architecture. It works especially well beside leather chairs, warm timber, linen curtains and upholstery in moss, ochre or muted claret.

A deep brown like Blackthorn gives walls a calm, grounded feel and works well on joinery too.
