About this colour

At #CEC09D, Mudstone reads as a warm muted neutral with enough yellow-beige in it to keep it from feeling flat, but enough grey to stop it turning creamy. It reflects light gently rather than throwing it back, so it gives a room a softened, grounded feel. In a north-facing room it will look deeper and a little cooler, with the grey side coming forward. In south-facing light it warms up and shows more of its biscuit-beige character, especially in Active Emulsion on walls or Waterbased Eggshell on joinery. It sits well beside natural linens, aged oak, darker walnut, and muted greens or russets.

How to use it

Use Mudstone in sitting rooms, hallways, or bedrooms where you want a background colour that stays composed beside upholstery in oatmeal, moss, or charcoal. It also suits painted skirting, cupboards, and window frames where you want woodwork to feel softer than white.

Mudstone is a muted neutral that will look warmer in south light and cooler in north light.
