About this colour

This shade reads as a muted navy with slate undertones, the #434254 balance keeping it firmly cool and slightly softened. It holds light rather than reflecting much of it, so on a wall it will feel calm and enveloping, especially in the evening. In a north-facing room it can lean more steel-grey and reserved, while in south-facing light the blue comes forward and the colour looks fuller and more dimensional. It sits well beside pale oak, walnut, brass, chalky off-whites and patterned upholstery in muted greens, berry tones or warm neutrals. In Active Emulsion or Waterbased Eggshell, it gives a neat, tailored finish for interiors that need a darker colour with restraint.

How to use it

Use it in a library, study or snug where you want the walls to feel settled and slightly formal. It works especially well with painted joinery, dark timber and upholstery in cream, tobacco, olive or deep red tones.
