Cochin Blue

Indienne Fabrics FabricZOF0023-01

Cochin Blue layers muted indigo-blue birds, flowers and scrolling foliage across an ivory ground. The cool, softly weathered colour gives the detailed repeat a quieter presence than a high-saturation blue.

About this fabric

The printed design combines stylised birds, pointed leaves and rounded flower heads in a medium-scale arrangement, with the ivory ground keeping the dense pattern legible. At 138 cm usable width and 425 gsm, this is a substantial fabric well suited to upholstery applications. The pattern repeats every 53.5 cm vertically and 46 cm horizontally, so the botanical layout should be considered when cutting larger upholstered panels. Its stated construction includes 29 threads per centimetre; no performance features are noted.

How to use it

Pair the cool Cochin Blue colourway with chalky ivory, weathered oak and soft grey-blue on an occasional chair or upholstered headboard. The indigo detail can also be picked up in plain cushions while allowing the bird-and-foliage repeat to remain the focal point.

Use the cool indigo-and-ivory palette to bring patterned definition to an armchair, headboard or occasional upholstered piece.

Pairs well with

A pattern needs somewhere for the eye to rest, so these are the plains and textures that sit beside Cochin Blue without fighting it. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
