About this fabric

The closely woven face combines a softly textured ground with fine, repeating chevron-like lines running vertically through the design. At 275 gsm and 151 threads per cm, it has a substantial yet versatile mid-weight handle suited to both upholstery and drapery. The pattern repeats every 16 cm vertically and 23.5 cm horizontally, giving the geometric texture a small, measured scale. Its muted shell colouring keeps the zigzag motif understated, with a quiet warmth rather than a stark white-and-grey contrast.

How to use it

Use Tanabe Shell on a contemporary armchair, headboard or relaxed curtain to introduce a restrained geometric rhythm without darkening the room. Its soft shell-taupe tone works particularly well with chalky whites, pale oak and warm stone shades.

Use the quiet shell-taupe tone to soften contemporary upholstery or bring subtle geometric texture to curtains and blinds.

Pairs well with

A pattern needs somewhere for the eye to rest, so these are the plains and textures that sit beside Tanabe Shell without fighting it. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
