Calcutta Natural

Calcutta Fabric

Calcutta Natural is a soft, sandy cream with a gently striated surface that gives the swatch a calm, understated look. The fine horizontal texture reads clean and tactile rather than flat.

About this fabric

Woven in a blend of 40% Viscose, 34% Polyester, 20% Cotton, 3% Acrylic and 3% Nylon, Calcutta Natural has the practical make-up and 25,000 Martindale rub test expected of an upholstery fabric. The cloth shows a pale natural cream ground with barely-there beige warmth, while the narrow horizontal ridges add quiet movement across the surface. Its 137 cm width makes it straightforward for tailored upholstery work, and the small repeat of H35 x V7.5 supports a subtle, ordered finish. The overall effect is light, relaxed and textural, with enough depth to stop the colourway feeling stark.

How to use it

Use Calcutta Natural on sofas, occasional chairs or banquettes where you want a bright but softened neutral. It works especially well with oak, limewashed walls and layered linens, thanks to its warm cream tone and fine striped texture.

A quietly textured neutral that keeps upholstery light and calm.

Pairs well with

A pattern needs somewhere for the eye to rest, so these are the plains and textures that sit beside Calcutta Natural without fighting it. Mixed across the houses we hold, which is the part a single supplier's book cannot do.

Paint that goes with it

Two ways to take the room. Both colours are from houses we hold, so a pot can come off the same order as the cloth. Screens shift colour, so treat these as a direction and bring the cloth to the shelf before you buy the paint.
