About Porter & Stone
Porter and Stone is the luxury brand of the same Manchester family business that trades as Fryett's, running from deep velvets to intricate embroideries. The two share an address at Marshall House on Rake Lane in Clifton, and the company does not publish a separate founding year for the brand; the business behind it dates to 1954.
It describes itself as a leading UK converter of curtain and upholstery fabrics, holding more than two and a half thousand cloths in stock for next day delivery. Fabrics are designed in the company's own studio and made through an established network of ethically approved suppliers, whose mills it visits and inspects. The brand is represented in more than forty countries.
It is also one of the larger UK suppliers of PVC coated printed fabric, and will coat other cloths to a gloss or matt finish to order. Flame-retardant lines meet British Standards for domestic use, and an FR treatment service takes a suitable fabric up to contract standard, which is why the range turns up everywhere from care homes to large hotel groups.
Nearly every Porter and Stone fabric in our library publishes composition, width, pattern repeat and a care code. No rub test is published, so that is one we read off the pattern book before a cloth goes on a seat.
